For 35 years, Unidad Educativa La Moderna has shown that human values have the power to transform lives, promoting social commitment among students and adults. First held in 1989 with the participation of 100 children, the event has grown significantly and now involves around 900 students, 190 teachers and staff, who dedicate months of work to creating an unforgettable experience for children from areas including Sabanilla, Barranca Puntilla, Boca de Caña and Barranca Central. Each La Moderna student becomes a sponsor for a child, in an activity that strengthens values such as empathy and respect while building bonds of fraternity. During the event, children enjoy recreational activities in an environment that encourages mutual learning and shared joy. Architect Jacqueline Viteri de Rizzo, who continues to lead the organisation of the event despite her retirement, highlights the deep impact of this experience on both the children who benefit and those who take part: “It is a reminder that giving is a powerful act, capable of changing perspectives and sowing hope in those who need it most.” We thank Diario Expreso for its coverage of our Solidarity Christmas event and for sharing with the community the spirit of generosity and solidarity experienced during this very special day.
